Cheap vs Expensive Lift Kits:

Choosing a lift kit for a Dodge Ram 2500/3500 could be a difficult decision. It is important to find a lift kit that fits your needs. If you plan to tow, you should stay away from extremely tall lift kits due to a negative performance impact. Instead, grab a leveling kit or a quality 3-inch lift kit. For a leveling kit, I am really not too concerned about the price. I have never had even the cheapest leveling kit fail on any of my vehicles. However, I do always pair a cheap leveling kit with extremely great quality shocks.

For a truck, I do not plan to tow with, maybe some light offroading. I would choose a middle of the roads lift kit. Event the Rough Country lift could be a great start if this is your first lift kit. If I plan to daily drive a truck with a tall lift kit (5″-7″) I would opt for an all-inclusive turnkey quality lift kit. While these come in at a much higher price, it’s always better to buy once – cry once.

Section 1: Leveling Kit

Rough Country Leveling Kit

Price: $99.50

Rough Country Leveling Kit

Price: $99.95

Hard to go wrong with a rough country leveling kit. These types of kits are extremely simple and do not require much time to install. It is important to understand that factory ride quality will suffer even with a leveling kit. The differences are small but can be noticeable. The main problem is this kit does not come with replacement shocks.

Why should I use new shocks with a leveling kit?

Factory shocks and shocks in general are designed specifically for the ride height of the vehicle. If you go up in ride height you are now limiting the articulation of the suspension system. If you decide to go down in ride height you are now riding on a different shock compression ratio; which can affect ride quality greatly.

Should I use a body lift for Ram 2500?

Body lifts within reason are okay for very specific solutions to very specific problems. For example, I would never suggest a 3″ body lift for any vehicle including a Ram 2500. I would however recommend a 1″ body lift to help you clear the 40×13.50×20 tires you want to run or other reasons that are similar. Example: Manual transmission swap and the trans tunnel is just a tad too small

What is wrong with a body lift?

A body lift will quite literally raise the body above the frame. Dodge Ram spent millions on engineering to make a truck that is safe, reliable, and capable. Adding a 3″ body lift to a heavy-duty truck will not only increase your center of gravity, and increase body roll, but it can also be unsafe for passengers in the vehicle if in a wreck.
